Phaidon sale

16 Jun

Phaidon’s having an art book sale. Not really great deals mostly, but there’s stuff by Parr, Wall, Araki, Erwitt (Erwitt stationary?), Graham, Nachtwey, Fink, Ruscha, Uta Barth and Fox Talbot. If you’re thinking about getting some books anyway, it’s worth a look. In terms of art at large, there’s some interesting stuff on Ukiyo-e, a Francis Alys monograph and some other interesting books on Mike Kelley, Hans Haacke and the like. And, a ton of stuff on Renzo Piano for some reason. Is that a wave that has crested?

Also, is it just me or is Frielander’s America By Car very similar to Raghubir Singh’s A Way Into India? Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with doing your own version of an idea, and in fact I like Frielander’s take better, but the two works do seem very precisely aligned. Perhaps shooting out of your car on a cross-country roadtrip is not exactly a patentable idea…
