It’s my birthday and I’ll cry (sing) if I wanna! From the Thumbs Down webcast in ’07:
Wish I’d thought up this lo-fi video technique. Basically they’re webcams attached to bike helmets with a stick. Your head is therefore always perfectly upright in the video, while the rest of your body and the world teeters about wildly.
Someone should attach it to a dancer for maximum dizziness factor!

I feel as if I was introduced to this technique over a decade ago with shows like Fear Factor and one where people hunt ghosts or some such. I didn’t like it then and I still haven’t seen it applied well, even sparingly, to my eye.
In fact, it was used in the last film I saw, Terminator Salvation. It went from new trend to cliche at the same moment for me. Oh, look, the character is dazed from a fight! Or in a drug-induced hallucinogenic state! Strap a camera to his head to make the audience “feel” it!
My apologies for ranting. I had no idea how strongly I felt about this. Hah.
